The report highlights: Nearly two million Americans over 65 years old have injured, exploited or mistreated by a caregiver, according to the National Center for Elder Abuse. Families struggled to find dependable care and the case is true nationwide and in Arkansas, according to author Jacklyn Ryan. In her book, “CareGivers and ScareTakers” she reveals true stories that exposes fraud and manipulation by unscrupulous caregivers.
Ryan also focuses on education by providing resources, tips on hiring and managing a caregiver and some basic estate planning questions.
She’s also working with state lawmakers to push for legislation for stricter laws around background checks for caretakers and better regulation is needed for in-home care agencies.
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15th is to encourage others to pay greater attention to the well-being of our seniors.

It is not entirely uncommon to see a caretaker from an agency turn the patient against their family and steal their assets.
